CHICKENFOOT's MICHAEL ANTHONY Interviewed By 96.7 KCAL ROCKS (Video)
February 1, 2011Frankie DiVita, radio personality for 96.7 KCAL Rocks, conducted an interview with CHICKENFOOT/ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California as part of the 2011 NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, a massive music-products convention that took place January 13-16. You can now watch the chat below.
CHICKENFOOT hit the studio this past Saturday (January 29) to begin recording its second album, and while drummer Chad Smith will be playing on the disc, he most likely will not be able to tour with CHICKENFOOT due to his commitments with the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. Frontman Sammy Hagar confirmed that CHICKENFOOT will find a replacement for touring purposes, telling MusicRadar.com that Jason Bonham, VELVET REVOLVER's Matt Sorum and HELLYEAH's Vinnie Paul Abbott are all possible candidates. Hagar said, "Any one of them would be amazing. But like I said, they'd be temporary — I can't stress that enough. Chad Smith is a member of CHICKENFOOT, and that's that."
The new album will follow up 2009's self-titled debut, a surprise success that sold more than 500,000 copies.
Hagar told The Pulse Of Radio that he and his bandmates — Smith, guitarist Joe Satriani and Anthony — are keeping the same attitude going into the second album that they had the first time around. "We're not doing it for fame and fortune — 'We've got to do this, we've got to do that,' and people telling you what to do and 'Oh, this will work' and 'Hey, this will be a hit, you need this, you need that.' We're just totally doing it exactly the way we want to do it. And being seasoned like we are, that's a pretty damn good professional opinion between the four of us about what's good and what's not."
Hagar told MusicRadar.com, "I am so ready to make this record. I'm beyond ready! The songs we've got, the riffs that have been flying around — we're going deep." Hagar added about the new material, "We've got stuff planned that we never could have dreamed about when we first got together. We're talkin' heavier than ever, bluesier, more emotional — I get goosebumps just thinking about it."
CHICKENFOOT will do most of the recording at Hagar's studio, The Foot Locker, in Marin County, California.
